New Zealand Southern Lakes Traverse Venture
Beginning at the southern tip of Lake Pukaki with Aoraki Mt Cook watching over you, participants will embark on a 6 day multi-disciplinary expedition traversing the Southern Lakes region of the New Zealand’s south Island. Participants and VFs alike will be challenged by the terrain and route finding idiosyncrasies of the NZ back country.
Once the Te Araroa trail has been navigated through to Lake Hawea you are rewarded with a stunning paddle along this spectacular lake before descending the Hawea river to rest in Wanaka.
Activities and Risk
This traverse utilizes backpacking, mountain biking and kayaking through a range of different environments unique to New Zealand. Leadership, teamwork, endurance and daring will all be required.
The trip requires a moderate level of physical conditioning. Venture Fellows will consult with participants about required training programs.
Cost, Equipment and Lodging
The land costs of the venture include accommodations and meals during the time of the expedition. Participants are responsible for paying for and arranging their flights, extra days for hotel accommodations and gear. A full gear list will be provided to participants.
