Wharton 1010 Teaching Assistants

Serving as a WH 1010 TA

Wharton 1010 TA Job Description

(For the 2026-27 Academic Year)

Teaching assistants will support the delivery of Wharton 1010, “Business and You:  Exploring Business Pathways and Developing Your Potential” during the fall semester by:

  • Assisting instructors with class management
  • Coaching student groups through the Innovation Challenge
  • Mentoring students through course learnings and their first semester at Wharton

Responsibilities

TAs will support class delivery and faculty by assisting with in-class activities, supporting small-group discussions, and helping facilitate a productive learning environment aligned with course goals. They will help their three teams through the innovation challenge assignment and group dynamics.

They will help students reflect on learnings through three, 15-30 minute one-on-one meetings with each of their students.  In preparation for each meeting, TAs will let students know where they stand with respect to class participation.  During each meeting, TAs will provide appreciative and developmental feedback so that the student has the chance to build on personal and professional strengths.  In the final meeting, TAs will engage each student in a conversation about their summative, reflective essay with the aim of looking to the future and identifying next steps that would enhance their growth and development.

Expectations

In order to fulfill their role in Wharton 1010, TAs are expected to participate in the following:

  • On boarding and training (in August)
  • New Student Orientation
  • Required TA training and community sessions (typically held on Fridays)
  • Course Meetings led by the Undergraduate Division or the McNulty Leadership Program (1-hour sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • Support and participate in the Spring ’26 recruitment for new TAs

TAs should expect to spend an average of 10 hours a week (in class and out) for 15 weeks in the fall semester.

Qualifications

Wharton 1010 TAs are expected to demonstrate a range of skills across multiple roles. As class supporters, TAs must be highly responsible, observant, organized, and task-focused. As mentors, they should possess strong oral and written communication skills that enable them to guide conversations in meaningful and productive ways. As peer coaches, TAs are expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, provide appreciative and developmental feedback, and engage students in processes of self-discovery and personal growth. Finally, as adaptable leaders, TAs must be agile and resilient in navigating change as it arises. All TAs must also be in good academic standing.

Application Process

The application will open on January 20th. The deadline is February 1, 2026.
