Mountain to Sea New Zealand

 EXPEDITION

Mountain to Sea New Zealand

Maunga ki te Moana | Mountains to the Sea

Beginning in the Arthurs Pass National Park, participants trek to the high passes of the Southern Alps before descending by raft through one of this country’s classic river gorges before cycling across the plains to drench themselves in the Pacific Ocean. The journey takes 6 self propelled days of discipline and adventurous decision making as the unique terrain and changing pursuits demand the most of participants and VFs alike. No one does ventures quite like the Kiwis!

Activities and Risks

Activities include trekking (river crossing, mountain travel, tent camping), Rafting (moderate grade rapids, self guided), Cycling (non technical mountain biking and road).

Training

Participants need a moderate level of training and conditioning for this venture.  Participants must thus be in good physical shape to fully appreciate the program. However, the breadth of activities and their design will make it possible for everyone, regardless of physical shape to participate in some way. The program does not require any previous experience backpacking or paddling, but if participants wish to participate in the mountain biking segment, they should be comfortable riding a bicycle.
